What is the patrol area?
I live in the Old Fourth Ward but outside the current patrol boundaries? Why not include all of Old Fourth Ward?

I live in the Old Fourth Ward but outside the current patrol boundaries? Why not include all of Old Fourth Ward?
We would like to expand our patrol territory into other parts of Old Fourth Ward over time. We want to start with a manageable patrol area to prove out the patrol, develop best practices, etc., so that when we do expand our patrol territory we will be able to do so in an organized, efficient and successful way. In addition, we do not want to expand our patrol area too much because it risks diluting the effectiveness of our patrol activities.

We established our current patrol area based on where demand for our efforts has been indicated and where our data suggests we have significant demand, key businesses to potentially provide financial support and advertising, and a small enough area to effectively patrol. In addition, our patrol boundries line up well with existing beats in our APD Zone.

As the patrol becomes more successful and demand and funding both grow, we may be able to expand the boundaries to include more of the O4W territory. If you live outside of our patrol area but are interested in joining if the patrol expanded its patrol area, please contact us to let us know. We keep track of where there is demand for our patrol so that we may consider it for possible patrol area expansion in the future.

Other patrols have successfully used this phased approach (e.g. Virginia Highland). Also, most neighboring patrols get financial support from large annual neighborhood festivals or other events that provide significant funding for their patrols. The Old Fourth Ward, unfortunately, does not currently have an annual neighborhood event yet that could contribute a portion of its revenues to support our patrol. (return to top)
